Frequently asked questions

How much weight do I need to lose?

Medically, losing 5-10% of your body weight can lead to significant health improvements. However, optimal health can be achieved at various weights. Instead of focusing solely on the scale, we emphasize overall well-being, including how you feel, your blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and your relationship with food. Some patients choose to avoid tracking their weight entirely, focusing instead on their personal health goals.

How long will it take to lose weight?

Patients typically see the most significant weight loss within the first 1-3 months and continue to lose weight over the course of 6-12 months.

What are the costs involved?

Most of our services are covered by insurance, though co-pays and deductibles usually apply. We accept most insurance plans.

How often do I need to come in for appointments?

Following your initial consultation, you’ll have a follow-up appointment two weeks later to begin your personalized plan. Subsequent visits are typically scheduled monthly. Consistent monthly follow-ups are a key factor in successful weight management. Some patients may require more frequent visits, while those in the maintenance phase should be seen every 12 weeks. Regular long-term follow-ups are essential for sustained weight loss.

We also provide telehealth services, allowing us to treat patients throughout Massachusetts. Many patients find a mix of in-person and telehealth appointments effective in reaching their weight goals.

What role does exercise play?

Exercise is crucial for overall health, benefiting your heart, bones, and mental well-being. While exercise alone may not lead to significant weight loss, it is vital for maintaining weight loss and preventing regain. We will help you create an exercise plan tailored to your health needs and weight maintenance goals.

Could this be a hormone issue?

At your initial appointment, we will conduct the necessary lab tests. Many of our patients have hormonal imbalances, often related to insulin resistance. We will provide you with the knowledge and tools to manage these issues through both lifestyle changes and medications.

Who will be my healthcare provider?

At Everwell Weight Care, you will receive care from a highly qualified team led by Dr. Gunardi Irawan, MD, DABOM, a board-certified expert in obesity medicine. Our approach is truly medical, and we collaborate closely with a team of nutritionists to ensure comprehensive support for your weight management journey.
